“His slider, I don’t know if you’d call it devastating, but it was just short of...”
– Royals manager Ned Yost on Ervin Santana’s slider in the Royals 7-1 loss. Apparently Ned Yost’s scale of pitch descriptions go from NOT DEVASTATING - JUST SHORT OF DEVASTATING - DEVASTATING. Considering Santana went 7 innings with 6 strikeouts while only allowing one run, God help the...

Mark it Down: Strasburg Shows Up June 8th Vs. The... →
The Nationals wouldn’t do this to solely drive up ticket revenue for a game against the Pirates, would they? No, no. That would be too devious.

“What, we need another 20-inning game and then use him after we’ve used all...”
– Anonymous Mets player on what possible use the Mets have for Oliver Perez. Those are some pretty harsh words, but they’re being echoed around the clubhouse. Perez has been terrible and it looks like the team is starting to turn on their teammates. Either the Mets have to eat the $20 million...

That’s Livan Hernandez and Jon Garland’s ERA’s after today’s Nationals-Padres game which the Nationals won 3-2 in eleven innings. Each gave up 2 runs, Hernandez in six and a third, and Garland through seven. Neither should have been so fortunate, Hernandez gave up eight hits and Garland gave up two solo home runs to Ryan Zimmerman, but that’s how the cookie crumbles...

That’s the Phillies batting average since May 22nd as they lost to the Marlins 1-0. They have also gone 54 innings without hitting a home run. But it’s not like the Marlins scored a lot of runs. From the game recap: “According to STATS LLC, It was the first time since April 2009 that teams combined to score seven or fewer runs in a three-game set; the Giants and Diamondbacks...

Latest News On David Huff →
Looks like he’s doing fine and he may even make his next start. The Indians are being conservative so we’ll see. Extremely glad to hear that Huff is up and about and as far as we can tell he’ll be fine.

That’s Todd Helton’s H/BB ratio this season after today’s 11-3 Rockies victory over the Dodgers. Every single starter, pitcher Aaron Cook included, picked up a hit against the Dodgers except for Helton. That’s not to say Helton didn’t help the club as he walked two more times in his 5 plate appearances. At this point in his career, with Helton’s slugging...

“I’ve really run out of things to say. I’ve juggled the lineup, I’ve put...”
– Dave Trembley after the Orioles lost for the 16th out of their last 18 games in the Rogers Centre. Sorry, Dave. But there’s absolutely nothing you can do. The pesky offense has been anything but, and outside of Millwood and Guthrie, the pitching has been weak. I could also make a simpler...

Headed Down To Anaheim
I hope my mere presence will bring about a Ken Griffey Jr home run. And barring that, I hope it wills him into the lineup. And barring that I hope he either pinch hits or sticks his head out of the dugout for a few minutes so that he can get some sun. Either way, I’m going to see a baseball game on a beautiful, sunny Saturday afternoon. Life doesn’t get much better than that.

Buster Posey Called Up →
While it’s nice that Posey will be getting to play unlike last September, the Giants plan on using him mostly at first base. The Giants desperately need offense from anywhere they can get it, but Posey’s bat looks most impressive if he was catching. It would be one thing if the Giants had a decent offensive catcher, but they have Bengie Molina who sports a career 87 OPS+.That’s...
