So what does one highly touted rookie that gets injured and gets out shined by another highly touted rookie do when he faces the most homer-happy offense in baseball? Most pitchers would wilt under the pressure and collapse into a bucket of tears on the middle of the field. But Wade Davis isn’t most pitchers. Wade Davis bucked up and went 7.2 innings while giving up 2 runs while striking out 6 and not walking a single batter. Most impressive was that Jose Bautista neither homered nor drove in a run. He must have been casting some mighty spells.
Brett Cecil took the loss, mostly due to Carlos Pena’s 3 run home run. It’s the 26th homer for Pena this year who has managed to work his average all the way up to a Tony Gwynn-like .214.
