As is my custom, I came across some surprising stats for Melky Cabrera. The man is having quite the year in center field for Kansas City, hitting .302/.335/.468. He’s posted career highs in runs (96), hits (192), doubles (41), home runs (18) and RBI (83). I knew he was rebounding nicely from 2010’s campaign, but I didn’t know just HOW nicely he was doing.
A 91/33 K/BB ratio, combined with a .328 BABIP suggest that Cabrera won’t continue this tear next season. The Royals handed rightfielder Jeff Francoeur, the other 27 year old outfielder having a decent season, a two-year, $13.5 million deal. With Alex Gordon in left and Lorenzo Cain set to take over in center, Cabrera will most likely have to look elsewhere for a payday.
