Horoscoping Tonight’s Playoff Games

Normally I wouldn’t put any stock in what the stars have to say, but after the bizarre and exhilirating end to the baseball season, I’ve had to re-think a few of my stances. So, using the heavens as my guide, here is a preview of tonight’s ALDS matchups: 

5:07 ET Tampa Bay Rays (M. Moore 1-0, 2.89) at Texas Rangers (C. Wilson 16-7, 2.94)

Matt Moore is a baby, making only the second Major League start of his career. Of course, Moore is a Gemini (born 6/18/89), meaning:

“You may try to explain something with your brain today when the true understanding of the situation comes only through your heart, Gemini. Feel the answer from deep within instead of trying to decipher it. Sink into the mood of the environment instead of trying to break it down into little compartments that you can analyze and categorize. Consider the whole instead of the pieces.”

What that means in Tim McCarverscope (TM): Establish fastball command. Focus on one batter at a time. 

As for Wilson (11/18/80), a Scorpio:

“Your thinking should be clear today, Scorpio, and your sharp focus adept at revealing the truth of any situation. Your mind may be intertwined quite delicately with your heart, but the good news is that they’re working harmoniously together. You’re able to stand back and see the rational, logical side of your feelings as well as the emotional, tender side of your thoughts.”

McCarverscope: Stay within yourself. Have mound presence. 

Edge: If Wilson can keep the emotional and logical sides of his personality in perfect harmony, the Rangers should be able to beat Moore’s 97 mph fastball and ability to decipher the Rangers hitters. Plus, how can the Rays expect to win without veteran leadership?!

8:37 ET Detroit Tigers (J. Verlander 24-5, 2.40) at New York Yankees (C. Sabathia 19-8, 3.00)

Verlander (2/20/83) has elevated from a mere mortal into a demigod this season, but even he, as a Pisces, can’t resist the pull of the moon:

Your mind is like a fine sieve that filters even the smallest details from the whole, Pisces. Nothing escapes your attention today. You’re right on top of the situation whether people realize it or not. Feel free to take your time and be patient. Facts may reveal themselves slowly, so don’t make a major decision about something until you have all the relevant data.

McCarverscope: Take time between pitches. Utilize scouting reports. Stay on the edges of the plate. 

As for Sabathia (7/21/80), a Cancer whose gravitational field nearly equals earth’s: 

Your mind is especially keen today, Cancer. You’ll find that it communes well with your anxious heart. Someone may have recently stepped into your life and now it’s time to engage with this person on a deeper level. It’s wise to take things one step at a time. Don’t let your imagination get carried away. It could be hard to find the line between imaginary and actual.

McCarverscope: Keep emotions in check. Focus on every pitch.

Edge: Sabathia and Verlander are two probable future Hall of Famers, but with Sabathia’s “anxious heart” and Verlander’s dominance over the last half of the season, if the Yankees bats don’t get an early start, money’s on the Tigers.
