CC Sabathia clinched a playoff berth for the Yankees today with his 21st win of the season as he tries to buff his win total in his bid for the Cy Young award. Somehow it was Sabathia’s first start of the year against the Blue Jays despite the two clubs hooking up somewhere around 45 times this season and Sabathia absolutely brutalized them. Other than a Travis Snider home run, Sabathia was nearly unhittable. His line on the day: 8.1 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 2 BB, 8 SO. It’s the fourth straight season that Sabathia has topped 230 innings in a season. For all the debate over whether Sabathia is worthy of the Cy Young (and don’t worry, he’s not.), you can’t say the guy doesn’t relish being on the mound.
