Despite playing the Royals, this loss wasn’t too surprising. Despite Nick Blackburn’s quality work since being recalled from AAA, that really had more to do with luck balancing out than Blackburn discovering a key flaw in his game plan. While Blackburn’s probably not a 6.66 ERA pitcher (yes, that was his actual ERA when he was sent down on July 25), he’s probably not too far off from there.
Blackburn gave up 8 runs in 4.1 innings to take the loss.
