20,000 of the 36,000+ Rays fans got in for free today and yet despite all that joyous spendthriftiness they couldn’t will their team to beat Kevin Millwood and the Orioles? I understand that some of the Rays were probably experiencing “flu-like symptoms” after clinching a postseason berth yesterday, but the division isn’t wrapped up yet and come on, it’s Kevin Millwood.
Millwood pitched seven innings of two hit ball in the Orioles 2-0 win despite not having one above average pitch according to Fan Graphs. Don’t even ask me how the Rays struck out seven times against Millwood and his amazing 86 mph fastball because my only guess would be some sort of gentleman’s agreement or government conspiracy.
Thanks to a Yankees loss, the Rays cling to a half game lead in the AL East.
