Each time Pedro Alvarez has moved up a level, he’s had a long adjustment period. But because he’s young, talented, and an intelligent baseball player, he’s eventually figured it out.
That’s why I shouldn’t have worried about the .411 OPS he posted during his debut. Because over the last two weeks, Alvarez has put up a 1.011 OPS while taking player of the week honors. That Alvarez picked up a four hit game while driving in five should be no surprise considering the hitting zone he’s gotten into lately.
Of course, because it is the Bucs, they still lost 11-9 to the Marlins because no one on the team knows how to pitch the ball. Sure, they know the rules of the game and manage to throw it in the direction of the batter, but that’s about where it stops. Mike Stanton had his own huge game in the win while hitting his 22nd home run and driving in five runs for the Marlins victory.
