Zack Greinke’s team might be out of it, and his team may never give him the emotional or run support he needs, but dammit if he’s not going to go out there and upset a pennant race.
Facing a Rays team that could use a win to move another half game in front of the Yankees in the East, Greinke instead handcuffed them for seven innings. Greinke struck out nine and allowed two runs, one coming off Carl Crawford’s 18th home run of the season. Man, Carl really wants that new contract next year, doesn’t he?
Matt Garza nearly matched Greinke, but that one extra run cost him the win. The Royals take this one 3-2 and there is now a tie in the AL East. With Minnesota’s tailspin, the winner of the East should have homefield advantage through the postseason.
