Ryan Braun Wins NL MVP

Ho hum, so this is how we end the awards season? By announcing the NL MVP on the same day that a new, revolutionary CBA is revealed?  And having it come on the heels of a highly contentious “should pitchers be considered players” debate? And the BBWAA has it go out with a whimper by selecting a player that is most certainly deserving of the honor? Shouldn’t they have done something to spice this up by announcing that Braun was deserving, but they were giving it to Randy Wolf for his veteran leadership?

While one could certainly make the case for Matt Kemp to take home the honors after leading the National League in fWar and nearly pulling off a 40/40 season, Braun did his part for the Brewers, finishing second in the NL in average, fifth in OBP, first in slugging and posting his own 30/30 season. Add in the fact that his team made the playoffs, something that weighs heavily on the minds of voters, and it isn’t surprising in the least.

Even better, for those that pay attention to such things like myself, Ryan Braun is the first truly Jewish MVP since Sandy Koufax.
