Things You May Have Missed While You Were Living Your Life
While you found a way to incorporate leftover gravy into every meal, the baseball world continued on. This is what you missed while in your food coma:
Athletics hire Chili Davis as Hitting Coach. As a fan of a robust, wintery chili, I’m a fan of this hire as well.
Indians update uniforms. It may seem like one of those “Can you spot the difference” games as the Indians, basically eliminating the colored trim around the buttons and calling it a day. Sadly, they’re still using the Chief Wahoo and using only the cream colored jersey and ‘Block C’ cap as alternates.
Jonathan Mayo has the slot value for the top ten picks next year. The numbers aren’t far off from what most players received last season, so the picture isn’t as gloomy as was originally thought. Still, it would be difficult for a team to sign a player like Bubba Starling with anything other than the first pick and still have money left for the rest of their draft.
Jose Canseco accepts Shaq’s offer to fight. It’s only a Twitter battle currently and Jose Canseco has been known to find creative ways to avoid throwing punches, but this is a fight that I would pay money to see.
Yankees sign Jayson Nix to minor league deal. It’s unlikely that Nix will make the squad, but a .200 career ISO against lefthanders will keep him on some team’s payroll. Of course, his career .207 Major League batting average and inability to play shortstop limits his use from the bench. The Yankees also signed Freddy Garcia to a one year deal hoping that his endless angles of junk make it through another year in the AL East.
Pujols to stick with Lozano. Of course, this is only news because Deadspin published a piece on Lozano’s alleged scumminess and money troubles. Being that he’s a high powered sports agent, I find none of the allegations shocking.
Bruce Chen re-signs with the Royals for Two Years. Consider this: From 2001-2009, when Chen was 24-32, he went 25-37 with a 4.96 ERA and pitched over 100 innings only twice. Since then: 24-15 with a 3.98 ERA and 295 innings. Jamie Moyer lite?
Muppets as ballplayers by Larry Granillo. It’s perfect, so what else do you want?
Astros Expected to Fire Ed Wade. But who are the Phillies going to trade with now?
Blue Jays Acquire Luis Valbuena from the Indians for cash. Valbuena has a career .226/.286/.344 line so he’ll probably hit 30something home runs with the Blue Jays next year.
Wily Mo Pena to join Softbank Hawks. Sure, Wily Mo has every right to chase those larger paychecks, but I had no idea Wily Mo was the kind of man to so thoroughly crush my emotions.
Daily news, recaps, and ridiculous pictures from across the baseball world. Extra focus on stirrup socks, squeeze bunts, mustaches and old baseball cards. In other words, your exact interests.
