Another lesson in how not to run a professional franchise from the Florida Marlins.
First they fire Fredi Gonzalez to appease Hanley Ramirez, assuming that they’ll be able to scoop up Bobby Valentine.
But when that takes too long, they install Edwin Rodriguez as interim manager, but make it pretty clear that he’s purely a fill-in guy.
Only problem is that they’ve jerked Bobby Valentine around for too long and he’s fed up with the club. The Marlins announce that Edwin Rodriguez will remain in charge until the end of the season.
The Marlins are once again linked to Bobby Valentine assuming that everything has blown over, but Bobby V pulls himself out of the running. Probably because three months isn’t enough time to forget that he doesn’t want to work with these insane people.
Nothing against Edwin Rodriguez, but now the Marlins head into 2011 having fired a widely respected baseball guy in Fredi Gonzalez, who was immediately picked up by the Braves, and the Fish are now left with what looks to be their absolutely last option helming the team. Edwin Rodriguez is probably a fine manager, but with the amount of faith the front office has put in him, I wouldn’t be shocked to see the players have a cavalier attitude towards him.
