Game Two

7:57 ET

Texas Rangers (C. Wilson 15-8 3.35) at San Francisco Giants (M. Cain 3.14)

Tonight’s matchup would have seemed an impossibility at the beginning of the season. While Matt Cain has continued to post excellent ERA’s despite a high fly ball rate, no one would have imagined that he would be on a team playing this far into October.

As for CJ Wilson, a year ago he was pitching in relief. I would have bet dollars to donuts that Wilson would have been near the back of the Rangers rotation, bouncing between starts and long-relief outings, but instead he has been the Rangers most consistent pitcher. Despite an untenable walk rate that he gets away with by getting groundballs and keeping long flies in the yard.

While each pitcher has been successful, they each have flaws which could be exploited. Unlike last night’s game that fell into the toilet quickly and unexpectantly, this one wouldn’t be quite so shocking.

I never feel comfortable with a pitcher that hands out so many free passes, so I’m siding with the Giants in tonight’s game. But if the wind blows out the right way, the Rangers could put up a whole mess of runs.

Edge: Giants.
