“You guys know I have power.”
I’m sure Renteria is giving a big “F you” to the Rangers bullpen because while they were busy handing a victory to the Giants, they were also stripping Renteria of his heroism. Renteria made a brilliant snag at short in the top half of the fifth and then homered in the bottom half to put the Giants up 1-0. This from the man who has hit eight home runs in his last 703 regular season at bats. I’m sure I wasn’t the only one who was having flashes to the 1997 World Series while watching Renteria tear apart the field. And those two plays looked to be the difference in the game before the Rangers pitchers forgot how to throw the ball over the plate at the end of the game. Renteria did benefit from the Giants seven-run inning, singling to drive in two runs that helped stretch the lead.
The Giants who seemingly find a new hero in every ball game, now head to Texas up 2-0.
