Transactions of Note and Import

Cubs sign Manny Corpas. You know those players that, despite all evidence to the contrary, you can only think of them in their heyday? That’s me with Corpas who is still the same pitcher who posted a 2.08 ERA at the age of 24 in 2007. Maybe the time off for surgery last year did him some good.

Twins sign Jason Marquis. Just take a quick peek at Marquis’ top comparable players and it’s not shocking that the Twins were eager to take him on. Though for one year and $3 million, he’s a decent lottery ticket to post some league average numbers.

Nationals Sign Mark DeRosa. Despite my love for DeRosa, I have to admit that it’s been two years since DeRosa was useful and three years since he was “good.”

Rangers release Kasey Kiker and Mitch Hilligoss. Sometimes a good name is just not enough.

Mets sign Rob Johnson. Parents, if you give birth to a child with good knees and a decent throwing arm, but no other discernible skills, turn them into catchers. They’ll be miserable, but well compensated for their misery.
