Courtesy of Ben Badler at Baseball America: “In a 3-2 count against Astros righthander Rhiner Cruz, Cespedes lifted a 97-mph fastball over the left field wall in the sixth inning.” It’s a rather nice swing, to put it in a scout’s terms.
Coming into tonight’s game, Cespedes had stuggled, albeit through a small sample size, in his Dominican League showing. It’ll be interesting to see if perhaps this sparks a hot streak, especially considering the number of teams who are probably interested in giving him a major league contract. I don’t think his stock has been hurt too much. My opinion is that, barring a huge meltdown, he can only add to it, and this could be the first step in that process.
