Moneyball Receives Oscar Nominations, Joe Morgan Boycotts Them

Who would have thought that Michael Lewis’ little book about people who preferred computers to the company of women would not only spawn a movie, but a movie that was up for an Oscar? Not only did the film snag a Best Picture nomination, but Brad Pitt is up for best actor, Jonah Hill is up for best supporting, along with best editing, best sound mixing, and best adapted screenplay. Come on, best sound mixing! Read the full list of nominees here.

There are a host of awards that Moneyball should have been eligible for, but sadly, aren’t recognized by the so-called Academy. I will now list them below:

  • Chad Bradford for Best Pitcher
  • Jonah Hill for Best Nerd Since Curtis Armstrong in Revenge of the Nerds
  • Most baseballs
  • Fewest references to Tim Hudson, Barry Zito, and Mark Mulder
  • The Oakland Award for Oakland’s Beautification
  • Phillip Seymour Hoffman for Please Don’t Wear Baseball Pants
  • The Good Will Hunting Award for Most Math in a Feature Film
  • Most Fashionable Film, Socks and Caps Category
