Transactions of Note and Import
Today I’m judging all signings based on how many World Series titles they’re worth. It’s a ranking system that will surely take the country by storm.
Brewers sign Corey Patterson. Who needs Prince Fielder? The Brewers have Corey Patterson! .025 World Series titles.
Orioles sign Pat Neshek and Ronny Paulino. That’s worth .012 World Series titles, I’d imagine.
Cubs signed Edgar Gonzalez and Matt Tolbert. This raises their utility factor by 32%, but is, somehow, only worth .003 World Series.
Cubs sign Trever Miller. Guys who can achieve that perfect equilibrium of the same K/9 and BB/9 ratios are rare. Not good, but rare. .027 World Series.
Pat Burrell retires. Women everywhere mourn. -.500 World Series for all teams not planning on signing Burrell, +.500 World Series for everyone that was going to offer him gainful employment.
Yankees sign Manny Delcarmen. I’m sure the decision was a difficult one for the Hyde Park native. .103 World Series.
Angels sign Francisco Rodriguez. No, not that one, the one that wears goggles and beats up Dads under stadiums, but this one. .320 World Series.
NESN Hires Matt Stairs as Analyst. 13 World Series, one for each team he ever played for.
