mayrazazaza-deactivated20110323: What do you think of Juan Pierre?

In a vacuum I love Juan Pierre. It’s hard to argue against the stirrup socks, the two time league leader in sacrifice bunts, the excellent outfield defense, all adding up to an extremely fun player to watch. That said, I understand why so many people are down on Pierre. He’s incredibly dependent on batting average, he gets caught too often while stealing and he has extremely limited power with only a .316 SLG in 2010.

Pierre is a fantastic option as a fourth outfielder as he showed with the Dodgers in 2009, but when given 600+ at bats your team needs a big bat at a normally below average offensive position to make up for the skills Juan Pierre lacks. I’m also very worried about Pierre going forward because once his speed is gone, most of his value will have gone up in smoke too. Juan Pierre is a much better player than similar players like Willy Taveras, but the clock is ticking.

To sum up: I love Juan Pierre, but I would be concerned if he was on my favorite team.
