Things You May Have Missed While You Were Living Your Life

While you were rooting for Drew Bledsoe to run off the sideline and take his place as New England’s rightful savior (or perhaps that was just me), baseball continued on. What you may have missed in your Bud Light-and-Nacho stupor:

CJ Wilson is a Tupac fan. Totally thought he was on Biggie’s side.

Collecting Starting Lineup action figures were once my life’s pursuit. This despite the fact that each figure resemblance to the player was equal to me dressing up as Ken Griffey Jr for Halloween. That said, why not take a quiz and see how well you can identify the players? I scored an 8 out of 10.

Bryce Harper could make team out of spring training. Anyone want to start a pool for first fastball to the ribs? And first bar fight?

The Altoona Curve to play next season in People’s Natural Gas Field. I’m man enough to admit that’s hilarious.

Jeff Allison discusses Josh Hamilton’s struggles. You may remember that Allison had some of the same substance abuse issues as Hamilton, but because Allison is a pitcher, a blown arm destroyed his chance at a comeback career. A very interesting look at addiction completely derailing a baseball career.

Incontrovertible proof that Popeye is a PED user. Did you think it was just a coincidence that he spent so much time with Bluto the bodybuilder?

Cecil Fielder takes the high road. And how does one do it? By calling your son an obese, ungrateful little bugger.

Brad Penny signs with SoftBank Hawks. He struck out 3.7 men per nine last year. It’s nice that someone still values his contributions.

Rick Ankiel signs with Nationals. Ankiel needs about two more years to earn a pension, so if this was a cop drama, making the team would be very important.

Cubs sign Gerardo Concepcion. There aren’t a ton of 19 year-old Cubans who earn Major League deals, especially not for $7 million. The Royals also signed Roman Hernandez.

Cardinals are close to signing Alex Cora. You can’t just “sign” that kind of leadership, you have to raise it from Hell.

Brent Dlugach is returning to the Tigers organization. And all is right in the world.

Todd Coffey signs with Dodgers. I cannot wait to see Coffey’s large and in charge body sprint out from the bullpen in the classic white and blue.

Astros sign Mike Hessman. He’ll try to add onto his 335 minor league home runs.

Indians sign Casey Kotchman. LaPorta and Kotchman could team up for the worst first base combo in baseball.
