Javier Vazquez has signed a one year deal worth $7 million dollars with the Marlins in hopes of recapturing some of his youth and moxie with a move back to the National League. Vazquez was coming off a career year with the Braves in 2009, but quickly crapped the bed upon a return to the Bronx while posting a 5.32 ERA and being moved to the bullpen for the first time in his career.
There were rumors of multiple year deals offered to Vazquez, but he must believe there’s more left in his arm as he’ll be hoping for a larger deal at the end of the 2011 season. Unless Vazquez can recapture some of his fastball velocity which dropped all the way to 89 mph last year, it will be difficult to do.
