Nick Johnson went to get a sub

And he might end up with a sub and a job! Roch Kubatko has the news that the Orioles are close to a minor league agreement with Johnson, who, despite a career .401 OBP, hasn’t been effective since 2009, mainly due to health problems. Like a lot of them. Many guys are worth signing to a minor league deal, just for the heck of it, and I guess Johnson is one of those guys. If he claws his way back, then he’ll at least have the chance to play on a team that probably won’t make too much noise this year.

He can play a little first base, but he really shines while basking in the dirt near home plate. This actually a bit terrifying because I can remember when Johnson was something of a hot commodity, and now he’s 33 with little chance of making it back to the majors. That just makes me feel old and also a little pathetic for never even starting on my dream to become a flame throwing stud.

There’s a theme to tonight’s posts I suppose. In honor of this signing, I will eat a large turkey sub with lettuce, tomato, bacon, hot mustard, and crab rangoon because it seems like the right thing to do.
