Great Moments In Cluttered Thought
I get it, writing can be hard sometimes. Either your brain is empty of ideas or the brilliant ideas it has one day can look terrible the next. It happens. But the fact that at no point did Patrick Rishe’s brain wake up and say “Whoa. Slow down one second. You want to write an article about Josh Hamilton and Whitney Houston? Whooaaaa nelly” should be alarming. Because that is a thing that happened. That article now exists in the world and in the greater consciousness of mankind and it can be read right here.
After mentioning that the Rangers have hired Shayne Kelley to be Josh Hamilton’s new accountability partner, Rishe goes on to write:
“Perhaps, Mr. Kelley, you should have Mr. Hamilton sit down and read all about the rise and fall of Ms. Houston. Have him YouTube some of her best performances when she was at the height of her career, and then look-up photos and videos of her during her troubled times.
Because this will remind Mr. Hamilton that nothing is forever and that substance abuse destroys.”
Yes, Mr. Kelley. Why don’t you have Josh Hamilton sit down and watch YouTube clips of Whitney Houston singing? After all, Hamilton doesn’t seem to care about his sobriety very much. Or actually, strike that, Hamilton seems to take it very seriously, or at least as seriously as any outside observer can know, owning up and taking full responsibility for his publicized relapses. Sadly, relapses are something an addict has to deal with and Hamilton seems to be working through his issues as best he can.
But yeah, maybe the Whitney Houston’s YouTube videos are the way to go. I don’t know why Dr. Drew hasn’t used that technique yet on Celebrity Rehab.
I’m sure Rishe wrote the article with the best of intentions or that he had an editor who wanted some spillover page views, but the piece serves as a warning that not every tragedy comes gift-wrapped as a story topic.
