Joe Maddon, the Mayor of Tropicana Field on Foursquare, on signing the extension that will keep him at head of the Rays’ bench through 2015. I’ve heard people say that Maddon looks better simply because of the glut of young talent on Tampa Bay’s roster, which is a pretty superficial argument.

Let me put it this way (and I say this as a Red Sox fan): it seems next to impossible that you would ever see the same kind of clubhouse dysfunction that hit Boston so hard last year take root in this team. Has the front office done a great job of drafting talent and finding roster fill-ins? Of course. But Maddon’s done a fantastic job leading them once they’ve made it to the Show.
