Remembering the Players Left Off The Ballot →

Matthew Pouliet of Hardball Talk does something that is of extreme interest to those who love fringe Major Leaguers who found a way to hang around for over ten years, but not be included on the Hall of Fame ballot.

Among the Wilson Alvarez’s and Cal Eldred’s in Pouliet’s article are Jose Offerman who ended his career in the Atlantic League after hitting the Bridgeport Bluefish’s pitcher and catcher with his bat and Rey Sanchez who is “one of eight players in the expansion era to come in with at least 5,000 plate appearances and an OPS+ under 70, joining Neifi Perez, Tim Foli, Ed Brinkman, Alfredo Griffin, Sandy Alomar, Mark Belanger and Ozzie Guillen.”

Of course, Sanchez was also a defensive whiz which is why he was continued being given chances at the plate. One of these days when I am fabulously wealthy and I don’t have enough things to spend my money on, I’m going to open up a Defense-Only Hall of Fame where Rey Sanchez, Rey Ordonez and Omar Vizquel are all considered gods and legends. And we will rejoice.
