How Much is a Hawks Worth?
Apparently a Ryan Theriot. Ba dum ch!
Terrible, awful, unavoidable joke aside, the Cardinals sent righthanded reliever Blake Hawksworth to the Dodgers for Ryan Theriot.
Theriot was an option to be non-tendered, so the Cardinals may have jumped the gun on this one. However, while they gave up the coolest named player in baseball, he’s not someone they can’t replace with some shrewd waiver wire dealings.
Theriot has seen his offensive production drop for three straight years and is not much of an upgrade over Brendan Ryan any longer. Perhaps the Cardinals plan is like cooking pasta—they’ll just keep throwing middle infielders out there until one of them sticks.
