And it comes courtesy of Rafael Palmeiro. Palmeiro, in an interview with Sports Illustrated, spins a delicious alternate universe tale where Palmeiro never took steroids. Palmeiro says:
“I have never taken steroids. For people who think I took steroids intentionally, I’m never going to convince them…”
Palmeiro also makes the case that he believed he was only receiving a B-12 shot while using my favorite excuse of “we did it only once.” Yes, when someone does something they believe benefits them and doesn’t break any rules, they usually do it only once. Because that makes a lot of sense.
I’m sorry Raffy, but you were already the least impressive member of the 500 home run, 3,000 hit club and the added evidence of steroids use makes it a mathematical certainty that you will not be elected to the Hall of Fame. If you’d like to begin an OJ Simpson-esque search for the truth though, more power to you.
