"So much has gone on in the last eight or nine years, it’s kind of taken some of the valor off it for me. If I ever do get to the Hall of Fame and there are 40 guys sitting behind me thinking, ‘He took steroids,’ then it’s not even worth it to me. I don’t know if that sounds stupid. But it’s how I feel in a nutshell."

Jeff Bagwell on the steroids allegations that may keep him out of the Hall.

It’s an amazingly insightful interview with Jerry Crasnick and I’m inclined to side with Jeff Bagwell. Perhaps I’m being naive, but plenty of Bagwell’s points make sense. Thus far there has been no concrete evidence linking Bagwell to steroids, so until a writer can point to something other than the size of his muscles, I will support his case for the Hall of Fame. It also doesn’t hurt hat he was a damn fine fielder and base runner in addition to his unbelievable bat.
