The Trade Steam Is Winding Down, Zack Cox Traded for Edward Mujica

With a little over an hour left before the trade deadline is over, most of the big names have already been on the move. Barring a surprise, we’re left with the dregs of the day, the final pieces that will drip out like the last liquid drops of an overly frozen Slurpee.

This one comes courtesy of Peter Gammons:

Cox has been top 100 prospect the last two seasons, but the third baseman has struggled in his first taste of AAA. Still, he has shown flashes of power and has a brighter future than Donnie Murphy at the position.

For the Cardinals, they receive a reliever who has seen his ERA rise and his strikeout rate drop this season. Already seven games back in the Central, this move may help the Cardinals push for a Wild Card berth, but doesn’t make much sense beyond that.
