Jeff Francoeur Offers His Opinion on Stephen Strasburg
In case you didn’t hear, the Nationals will be shutting down Stephen Strasburg at some time this season. They don’t have an exact number, but they’ll know when the time is right because the air will be thick and Mike Rizzo’s knee will be balky. Oh yeah, and they won’t be letting Strasburg pitch in the postseason. Which is like, super lame, for me as an at-home television viewer.
While we can debate between what’s best for the team in the long and short-term and how that may be at at odds with what is best for the player, Jeff Francoeur knows how he feels:
“For me, you win as many damn games as you can, whenever you can. If that’s Stephen Strasburg throwing 200 innings, so what? Cole Hamels pitched 262 innings (at 25, in 2008) the year the Phillies won the World Series.
“You’re telling Strasburg that once you get to 180 innings, go ahead and enjoy October from the bench? Just shoot me.”
Does Jeff Francoeur really want someone to shoot him? No, probably not. Does Jeff Francoeur love the 1997 workplace comedy, Just Shoot Me starring David Spade and Wendie Malick? Well, who doesn’t?
