Jumping onto prospect hype is easy, but picking out the truly good ones is extremely difficult. Rarely is one afforded the opportunity to check their work which is why John Sickels’ prospect reviews are so invaluable.
I’m not sure if this was just a bad crop of prospects, or if Sickels was having a particularly bad year, or if the percentage of success for prospects is usually this low, but 2006 looks especially bad.
Out of Sickels top 10, only Ryan Zimmerman and Prince Fielder stand out as elite level players, with a mixture of players who still have something to prove like Delmon Young and a mess of wash outs like Andy Marte and Brandon Wood, who were some of the worst players the Majors had seen in recent years.
