Today’s Exciting Transactions of Little Importance

Dodgers Sign Mike MacDougal - 6.6: MacDougal’s walks per nine innings over the last three seasons. Unfortunate as that is, it’s just not gonna play.

Rays Sign Casey Kotchman, Claim Rob Delaney - Take John Olerud, and remove the ability to hit for power, average, plate discipline, and his on-field style, and you’ve got yourself Casey Kotchman.

Delaney doesn’t have great stuff, but in his minor league career he has struck out 4.93 batters for each one he’s walked. There’s nothing I love more than strike throwers, so I’ll be rooting for the 26 year old this spring.

Pirates Sign Joe Beimel - Beimel started his career as a Pirate, posting a 5.00 ERA across three seasons. Since then he’s posted a 3.43 ERA as the rare shutdown lefty who can also get righties out. Since he’s returning to the Pirates, he’ll probably see his ERA rise.
