It Turns Out That Yunel Escobar is Not Only A Lousy Shortstop, But A Lousy Human Being Too

This past Saturday, Yunel Escobar, while playing professional baseball for the Toronto Blue Jays, decided to pass along a message to millions of people. And no, it wasn’t “Hi, Mom” or even “I sharted.” Rather, it was even more crass than that, writing “Tu ere maricon” on his eye black.

For those like myself who don’t speak spanish, it’s roughly translated as “You are a f****t” or “You are a p***y.” So he’s either homophobic or sexist, so he’s really covering all the bases.

Plenty of people have also tried to point out that the term “Maricon” is thrown around a lot in Spanish-speaking cultures, not just to refer to gay people, but walk around a high school and you’ll hear plenty of “f****ts” used, too. It doesn’t make it right. 

If this was just a clubhouse prank or a joke Yunel Escobar thought was funny, then he had better mature quickly. Because there is no room for this in a civil society and certainly not on a Major League field.

The Blue Jays have released a statement and MLB will surely be looking into this with their own brand of punishment soon to be coming.
