Revisiting Some of My 2012 Predictions

As baseball bloggers are wont to do, Mike and I set out our 2012 predictions before the season started. You can find our posts here and here. The season isn’t technically over, but enough has been decided - meaning that many of my predictions were woefully off the mark - to review some of my less than clairvoyant thoughts. I’ve left out some that are a little too far out to weigh in on.

AL East

  1. New York Yankees - hey! I got one.
  2. Boston Red Sox* Baltimore Orioles*
  3. Tampa Bay Rays
  4. Toronto Blue Jays - “Alright, alright.” - Matthew Mcconaughey reviewing his preseason predictions
  5. Baltimore Orioles  Boston red Sox

AL Central

  1. Detroit Tigers - +1
  2. Cleveland Indians - -1 Chicago White Sox
  3. Kansas City Royals
  4. Chicago White Sox - Cleveland Indians
  5. Minnesota Twins - -1 even though I got it right.

AL West

  1. Texas Rangers - Oakland As
  2. Los Angeles Angels* - Texas Rangers*
  3. Seattle Mariners eh, I should’ve known better. Los Angeles Angels
  4. Oakland Athletics - there we go! Seattle Mariners

NL East

  1. Philadelphia Phillies way off - Washington Nationals
  2. Atlanta Braves* - NBD.
  3. Miami Marlins - Philadelphia Phillies
  4. Washington Nationals - they exceeded expectations. New York Mets
  5. New York Mets - Miami Marlins

NL Central

  1. Milwaukee Brewers - was winging it. Cincinnati Reds
  2. Cincinnati Reds* - St. Lous Cardinals*
  3. St. Louis Cardinals - Milwaukee Brewers
  4. Pittsburgh Pirates - tempt me, tease me.
  5. Chicago Cubs
  6. Houston Astros - 20 - 61 on the road.

NL West

  1. Arizona Diamondbacks - San Francisco Giants
  2. San Francisco Giants Los Angeles Dodgers
  3. Colorado Rockies - I lol’d at my own pick.
  4. Los Angeles Dodgers  San Diego Padres
  5. San Diego Padres Colorado Rockies

AL Cy Young: James Shields. Good, but not Cy Young good.

NL Cy Young: Clayton Kershaw. He’s in the running, but I’m not sure he makes it.

AL MVP: Brett Lawrie Is .273/.323/.405 MVP-worthy? No, well alright then.

NL MVP: Matt Kemp In my defense, he spent a great deal of time on the DL.

AL ROY: Jesus Montero If Montero had a monster season, it would probably still come up way short thanks to Mike Trout. It’d be like that scene in The Phantom Menace where the giant fish is eaten by a HUMONGOUS fish. And he’s like, “There’s always a bigger fish.” And we all laugh together and are best friends.

NL ROY: Yonder Alonso Not a bad effort. But not ROY-worthy.
