The Reds Take One from the Giants
And just like that, Cincinnati is up 1 - 0 on San Francisco. The Reds scored five times, and Brandon Phillips was the big man on campus, going 3 - 5 with three RBI (including a two-run homer) and a run scored. However, Cincinnati did need six pitchers to get through the game. Johnny Cueto left after just eight pitches with back spasms. He’s listed as day-to-day, but that could obviously be a big strike against the Reds.
The Giants made things interesting by loading the bases in the bottom of the ninth and scoring a run to cut the lead to 5 - 2, but they couldn’t get any more. Aroldis Chapman walked two and lost a couple of wild pitches. Buster Posey hit a solo home run in the sixth but struck out swinging with men on second and third to end the game.
