Nationals Best Cardinals

Baseball, like life, can be a tease. Today’s Nationals-Cardinals game is a good example. Until the eighth inning, all of the runs came in the second, despite multiple opportunities to score.

Gio Gonzalez was wild and issued seven walks. He was able to dance around them and left after five innings of two-run ball. Craig Stammen had his own troubles in relief, with two hit batsmen. It was a Ryan Matthews induced double play in the bottom of the seventh that evened things out for Washington.

Adam Wainwright fared better, pitching 5.2 innings and striking out ten. The bullpen was solid in relief until Future Matt Stairs Tyler Moore put the Nats ahead with a pinch-hit, two-run single.

That 3 - 2 lead held up thanks to Drew Storen, who uh, stored the win.

But their eyes, man. The Nats, fiercely hunting for their first World Series title during their new era. The Cardinals, defending their own tittle sans Albert Pujols.
