Detroit Takes Game One, Despite The Best Efforts Of Raul Ibanez
It took them 12 innings, but the Tigers beat the Yankees 6 - 4, despite the efforts of Raul Ibanez, who once again felt like playing more baseball beyond the bottom of the ninth and tied things up at with a two-run homer. He followed a two-run shot by Ichiro. Both home runs came of Jose Valverde, whose post season struggles continued. Doug Fister and Andy Pettitte both pitched solidly enough to keep their teams in the game.
But this 2012 Detroit team is a force to be reckoned with, and they would not let up tonight. Offensive stalwarts Delmon Young and Andy Dirks drove in the go-ahead runs off of David Phelps. Young had already driven in a run and hit a solo homer. Drew Smyly finished things off for the win.
Alex Rodriguez DID start for New York, but he went 0 - 3. Eric Chavez pinch-hit for him in the eighth. Because after all, he’s no Delmon Young.

I assume a Derek Jeter-addendum to this post is on the way.

Gotta love Ichi-bombs! Still can’t believe I am rooting for the Yankees….. At least A-Rod still sucks.
