The Angels Tommy Tutoned Mike Trout

Sure, you may be one of the two best prospects in baseball, but you still need to pay your dues, rook.

From Kevin Baxter at the LA Times:

“Several times during Monday’s spring training game against Oakland, a message popped up on the right-field scoreboard inviting fans to call “Mike Trout directly with your baseball questions.” Trout’s real cellphone number was included in the message.

The prank was instigated by pitcher Jered Weaver.

And what did he do to deserve the punishment? The OC Register hints at the details:

“The 19-year-old Trout apparently offended the sensibilities of some of his more established spring teammates during the daily team meeting Monday. The morning meetings under manager Mike Scioscia feature team-bonding exercises with the youngest players forced to make presentations in front of the group. Most mornings, the laughter can be heard outside the closed doors.

It wasn’t Trout’s turn to make a presentation Monday morning but he must have crossed the unwritten ‘speak-only-when-spoken-to’ line.”

I can’t say I really understand the rules and regulations of the Major League clubhouse, but luckily for for Trout, there were only 2,822 spectators for this late Winter stunt. Otherwise he would be going through voicemails until he was returned to the minors.
