If the baseball offseason offers one positive it’s this: time for a brand new group of strange, weird, viral minor league logo changes. Though no has touched my personal favorite of the offseason (Lexington Legends), this one from the Stockton Ports comes close.
From the press release:

“The Ports new logos honor Stockton’s heritage as the largest in-land port in California and the Asparagus Capital of the World. A new character, 5 O’clock Dock, is the centerpiece of the identity, brandishing his baseball tattoos and asparagus club. Navy, Shipyard Gray and Asparagus green make up the club’s new alternate colors. The Ports are the first professional sports team to use Asparagus green.”

Oddly enough, they make no mention of the fact that they are the first team to also feature an actual asparagus as part of their logo. And while I wish that Mr. Dock would use that tasty green as a baseball bat, it’s taken 120 years of baseball history to get us this far. Sometimes we have to be patient.

Nothing strikes fear in the heart of your opponent better than a giant asparagus club….with a little Hollandaise sauce,...

Don’t let your Department of Tourism design your logos. That’s how you end up with the Toledo Walleye.
