MLB Pays $1.2 Million for Rockies.Com

Yesterday, this is what Rockies.com looked like:

Today, it’s much more purple and that bear is now Carlos Gonzalez. Otherwise, it looks about the same.

Still, it’s fairly shocking news because even to a well-oiled corporate machine like Major League Baseball, $1.2 million is a lot of money. But what if you wanted to buy back a couple other sites? According to Worth of Web.com:

  • MLB.com - $25.3 million
  • MiLB.com - $772,000
  • Baseball Reference - $2.2 million
  • Sex.com - $13 million
  • Fart.com - $1,696

And how about this venerable institution? Well, let’s just say I won’t be packing up and retiring just yet.
