This seductive man has retired after signing a one day deal to return to the Kansas City Royals. Sweeney has been one of the most likable people in the game, probably taking over the mantle of most popular player since Sean Casey retired.
There’s a lot to be said about Sweeney’s career, one that was underappreciated because of his time in the Kansas City wasteland and the various injuries that cut short his peak. From 1999-2005, Sweeney averaged 23 HR, 97 RBI, while hitting .313/.383/521. Of course, he also missed an average of 31 games per season, otherwise we would be discussing a future Hall of Fame induction.
