Baseball Prospectus: The Manager-Umpire Arguments of 2012 →

While we all have a general idea of what an umpire generally requires before booting a manager, arguing balls and strikes, insulting ones mother, questioning ones choice in craft beer, we’ve never really gotten the full story. Until now.

Ben Lindbergh and Evan Brunell decided to study every. single. manager ejection from 2012, reading their lips along the way to get to the core of the issue. Turns out, there are many levels to the umpire/manager relationship, most of them existing in that fuzzy level between ‘shit’ and ‘frazzleberry.’

But really, the entire article needs to be read for the highly entertaining transcription and gifs along the way.

My personal favorite: Bob Davidson on May 15th.
