Big Time Important News!
With Opening Day so, so, so very close, teams are locking down their final roster spots. There is just an endless amount of baseball going on without anything actually happening.
Giants Release Jeff Suppan - Glad to see that Barry Zito didn’t have to go all Tanya Harding on Suppan.
Twins Make Trade to Keep Scott Diamond - What did they have to give up to get a player that the Braves didn’t even want on their 40 man roster? Why, just a flame throwing reliever named Billy Bullock that many seem pretty sweet on. I’m very worried about the future of the Twins franchise.
Blue Jays Acquire Jayson Nix - Low average hitter with plenty of pop, but no defensive position to call his own? How was he not already on the Blue Jays?
Mets Acquire Allan Dykstra for Eddie Kunz - Dykstra has a great name, but lacks the famous bloodline, and Kunz is so close and yet so far from being Rusty Kuntz. Baseball wise they are both former first round picks who have not panned out.
Padres Release Oscar Salazar - That’s another utility infielder who has been thrust back onto the job market. Salazar was one of the best utility men in 2008 and 2009, and his numbers from last year are slightly depressed because of Petco Park. The Padres acquired Alberto Gonzalez to replace him.
Royals Acquire Matt Treanor - He will be used to primarily cover the position until Jason Kendall has recovered from shoulder surgery. Still, I can’t imagine that Treanor could actually be worse than Kendall while they battle for worst offensive catcher.
Mariners Release Josh Wilson - We always knew there wasn’t room for two J. Wilson’s with good gloves and no bats on the Mariners roster.
