As much as I loved what Bautista did last season, it was tempered by the expectation that he certainly couldn’t do it again. I thought he would settle in for a few years of 25-30 home runs with a low average and some walks—a useful player, but not a superstar. Instead, he’s keeping up the pace that he had all last season and may force us to start a new 60 homer watch. We’re now forced to ask if Bautista is the best hitter in the AL and no one can give a definitive answer as to what he changed about his game or his swing.
After Corey Patterson hit one out, Jose Bautista came up and took an 86 mph slider hanging slider from Colby Lewis and sent it out for his eighth home run of the season. The Blue Jays need to find someone who can get on base in front of Bautista who has an unnatural looking 11 RBI for his efforts.
