Philip Humber Will Break Your Heart
David Schoenfield passes along this quote from Philip Humber which, like Toy Story 3, will instantly make you burst into tears:
“When I was young I had big dreams. I thought I was going to go out there and dominate every time. It hasn’t worked out that way to this point.”
I have made my fair share of jokes at Humber’s expense, mostly because he has failed to live up to the promise that made him part of the Johan Santana trade package. Unfortunately, writing and making jokes about baseball often requires making fun of the players, usually because they are physically unable to do what they have spent their lives working towards. It’s important to remember that athletes are people, too, with their own dreams and struggles. I now plan on purchasing vast quantities of Philip Humber merchandise to make amends.
