EPIC. BASEBALL.
Just look at that line score. The game lasted so long that the Mets logo had to posted above the two teams’ names. Crazy baseball.
Some fun facts:
It lasted nearly seven hours.
Scoreless for the first 19 innings, only four innings short of the record held by the (surprise!) Mets. That game was played on April 15th, 1968 and the Mets lost 1-0 to the Houston Astros.
A total of 19 pitchers used. Nine by the Mets and ten by the Cardinals.
Although only eight of the Cardinals hurlers were actually pitchers. Shortstop Felipe Lopez threw a scoreless frame, and outfielder Joe Mather pitched two innings and gave up the two runs.
A total of 652 pitches were thrown. (Assuming my math is correct.)
The Cardinals could have won it. Ryan Ludwick ground out with two men on to end it, leaving Albert Pujols on deck. Albert also had a game that he will probably never see again. 2-5 with 4 BBs.
