UPDATE: It was like a Globetrotters game as the game ends with a ludicrously bad umpiring call at second base. JJ Hardy bobbled the ball and shuffled it to Orlando Hudson way too late, but the player was called out anyways. Ah, well.
There is something hilariously scrappy about this Royals team. And really, if their bullpen wasn’t so bad, they would be a decent team.
But just looking at them play in the pouring rain in the eleventh inning, you knew things would go poorly. First Bruce Chen is brought in to pitch. You know, Bruce Chen whose last good season was sometime around 1998.
Then Billy Butler couldn’t catch an infield pop-up. Perhaps it was the rain, perhaps that Butler is hilariously miscast as an infielder.
Then Mitch Maier, hilariously cast as a legitimate centerfielder, can’t make the diving catch in centerfield allowing Orlando Hudson to move to third.
But in true Washington Generals fashion, the Royals tied it up in the bottom half of the inning so that more balls could fall in, players could slip and slide and there could be general madness on the field. Expect the Twins, the Globetrotters of the Central, to eventually take the game.
