Bobo Newsome
After that last video, I wanted to take a look at this Bobo Newsome character. He certainly did his best to play for every single major league club. Here’s a look at Bobo’s career.
- Pitched from 1929 until 1953. He started his career at the age of 21 and pitched until he was 45.
- Finished with a career 211-222 record with a 3.98 ERA.
- Four time All-Star, he also led the league in losses four separate times.
- Began his career with the Brooklyn Robins. (I feel like I know a lot about baseball history, but the Brooklyn Robins were a major league team?)
- Went on to pitch for a total of 11 teams.
- In order they are: Brooklyn, Chicago Cubs, St. Louis Browns, Washington Senators, Boston Red Sox, St. Louis Browns (again), Detroit Tigers, Washington Senators (again), Brooklyn Dodgers, St. Louis Browns (third time), Washington Senators (third time), Philadelphia Athletics, Washington Senators (fourth time!), New York Yankees, New York Giants, Washington Senators (fifth time!), and back to the Philadelphia Athletics to end his career. (Let me know if I miscounted anywhere.)
- He never spent more than two full seasons with any team.
That’s an absolutely insane career. The amount of times that he just went back and forth between teams is just unheard of. Can you imagine how many teams he would have played for if there were more than sixteen teams?
