It’s easy to forget sometimes, but this Pirates team is very bad. When they win, it’s always exciting with end of game heroics. But if they were a good team, they wouldn’t have to win that way. Sometimes they would win by a healthy margin. They also wouldn’t lose games by touchdowns either.

This is also a team that finally gets a couple back to back good starts from their pitchers allowing the bullpen to rest, but instead decide to play fourteen innings before embarking on a trip to the West Coast. Maholm was not sharp, throwing about half his pitches for strikes, but he gutted it out and threw seven.

A point of order: This mini winning streak started when DJ Carrasco pulled his stirrups even higher. Just another piece of evidence in the higher stirrups=better performance camp.
