Bartolo Colon Throws First Shutout Since 2006

Yes, it was only against the Oakland Athletics, but they’ve got some professional hitters in that lineup with the likes of Josh Willingham and Hideki Matsui and David DeJesus. Sure, none of them are hitting even .270, but the fact of the matter is that the Yankees failed to throw a complete game shutout last year and Colon has given them one in 2011. Thank heavens for the vampire blood that is currently being dumped in Bartolo Colon’s right arm.

Colon pounded the strike zone with his four and two-seam fastballs accounting for 86 of his 103 pitches. It’s how it’s gone this year for Colon who has found the velocity that many a 22-year-old prospect would be lucky to have. So next time you’re grossed out by a news story featuring a 60-year-old woman giving birth, remember that it’s a two way street. Because without the unholy alliance between science and humanity, Bartolo Colon’s 2011 could never be.
